Back to School 2022
It’s mid-August and most of us have been infected with the “back-to-school syndrome”! Whether you are a student, parent, grandparent or just a member of the community – you know that time of year has arrived! The busses have started rumbling down the roads, the sounds of children at lunch break have started echoing through the neighborhoods and the ability to get across town between 8-9am or 2:30-3:30pm has greatly diminished! This time of year proves both happy and sad – happy for all of the fall activities and to see the kids back in a routine, while at the same time so sad that time is flying and summer is basically over.
This is also the time of year when many current and/or future homeowners start to re-evaluate their homes. Maybe the twins have turned into teenagers and your house seems to have shrunk since the last school year. Maybe your 18-year-old has packed his bags and entered that next phase at University of (insert your school of choice here)! Perhaps you are a recent grad and have spent the last few months living in your parents' basement – been there done that! Whichever scenario – maybe it’s time to rethink your housing situation!
Many of us at Quaid and Rooney have been through the exact same things – outgrowing houses or houses outgrowing us! We know what it’s like when it’s time for a change and we are here to help you re-evaluate your real estate needs. Whether you need a bigger home, a home of your own or it’s time to down-size – give us a call today 630.790.5904 and we will be happy to discuss your options with you! And remember if you are in the ‘moving out of your parent’s basement’ boat, why pay rent to someone else when you can purchase and pay yourself! And last but not least – summer isn’t really over until September 21st!
If you are thinking of buying or selling in this fabulous city, give us a call at 630.790.5904! We have agents ready to help you with your real estate needs.

The workout program takes place on the Great Lawn in Millennium Park from Saturday, May 28 to Saturday, September 3, 8-11:45am with a series of 45-minute workouts including Tai Chi, Yoga, Pilates and Zumba®.
Pilates and Zumba® will not be offered on June 4 and 11. ASL interpretation will be provided for all workouts.
Summer Workouts are supported by the McDonald’s Active Lifestyles Endowment managed by the Millennium Park Foundation.
The Shedd Aquarium's weekly summer concert series presents a rotating lineup of jazz bands on its scenic lakeside terrace, where attendees can dance, have a drink and get a great view of the Navy Pier fireworks. Guests also get access to the Shedd's exhibitions, meaning that you can gaze at the creatures that inhabit the Caribbean Reef, snap a picture of a cute sea otter or touch a sea star.

Empty Nester - Repurposing
Once the kids have launched, your home can feel empty. When you have gotten over that, get to work deciding how you can best utilize your home for a new lifestyle. Repurposing their old room might even act as a deterrent for them to move back in! There are many options for extra rooms so get creative and dream. Just keep in mind that one day you may have to turn the space back into a bedroom for resale purposes. If you are thinking of selling and need some advice about how to stage those extra spaces – please give us at Quaid and Rooney a call – we have experienced stagers on hand who will gladly guide you through the prep and staging process.
Home Office
No rule says that the spare room has to accommodate guests. How about turning it into a dedicated home office?
Expand Your Closet Space
If you can use more closet space, why not create a walk-in wardrobe? With a few storage accessories, you can turn the spare room into a fabulous new dressing room.
Cozy Library
Have you ever dreamed of your own private library, surrounded by bookshelves and your favorite things? If you don't have the square footage for a traditional library, the spare bedroom is the next best thing. Line the walls with shelving and bring in a comfy chair, ottoman and reading lamp.
Fitness & Wellness
Whether you practice yoga, run, or do strength training, you'll be more motivated and more excited about your workouts if you establish a dedicated exercise space. So, get moving! Drag that treadmill, weights and yoga mats out of the basement, set up and enjoy your very own work-out space.
